Dr. Beverley I. Scott
Dr. Beverley I. Scott, a native of Johnson, St. James, is the esteemed founder and Executive Director of the Family and Parenting Centre, a position she has held for 23 years since its inception in 2000.
With over two decades of dedicated service as a Child and Family Therapist and Parent Trainer, Dr. Scott has made significant contributions to child behavior modification therapy, especially in schools throughout western Jamaica, a service she began in 2001.
She is the co-author of three influential handbooks: Handbook for Guidance Counsellors, Positive Parenting Handbook, and Treatment for Children with Emotional, Developmental, and Behavioural Problems.
Dr. Scott’s academic journey is equally impressive, holding a PhD with a major in Theology and a minor in Psychology, a B.Sc. in Social Work (Honours) from the University of the West Indies (UWI), and a Certificate in Social Work from the same institution. Additionally, she completed her teacher training at Mico University College in Kingston, Jamaica.
Dr. Scott’s exemplary work has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Penn Higgins Award for Outstanding Academic Performance in 1985, the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Award for Individual Community Services in 2011, the CIBC First Caribbean Unsung Heroes Award in 2012, and the Montego Bay Seventh-Day Adventist Award for Service to Humanity in 2013.
In 2015, she was honored with the Virtue’s Entertainment Award (USA) for her dedicated advocacy in child rights and protection. As a Justice of the Peace, Dr. Scott also continues to serve her community with unwavering commitment.
Beyond her professional life, Dr. Scott is a proud mother of three children and a grandmother to seven.
In her leisure time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, and fashion designing, activities that reflect her creativity and love for family.
